We are a family of three in the Pacific Northwest. In 2010, after the boys had experienced a few years of child care and elementary grades, we opted for a radical change: no more school from now on. No more arranging our lives around one particular zip code or district calendar.
Where once the plan had been to “commit to a good school district for the long haul,” and to place importance on home ownership as a means of stability, it’s become clear that those two notions don’t work for us. We want the world as our district. We’ll trust ourselves to determine the focus. We want a rich understanding of humanity and of the natural world instead of letter grades and standardized tests.
Will we learn out there, outside the box? Have no fear…we’re flexible people with a spirit of adventure. We like our academic subjects applied, with extra mayo.
Come with us.
